A note on prices

Darren with guestsFingalWe specialise in small-group tours with high-quality guiding in natural areas.  Companies that take large groups can spread the travel cost  over more  passengers  and so charge less, but the experience  is not the same.  Guests who have come with us after having been on an outing with a large group say how much they appreciate being able to spend extra time in the forest, see a lot more, ask more questions, let us know their special needs and interests  and generally talk with us than is possible with the mass-tourism outings.

Those of you who have seen old copies of Lonely Planet and other guidebooks may see that our prices have considerably risen over the years. This is largely because of rising costs of fuel, accommodation and food, plus other expenses such as insurance, and we also travel further than we once did on our 3-day wildlife tour to include a coastal component and the wildlife park, the accommodation is a bit more upmarket (and far more convenient to the route we now travel). We have also had the GST imposed on our original prices. For folk on strict backpacker budgets, we introduced the camping option for the 3-day wildlife  tour and for even tighter budgets the wildlife weekend self-cater camping tour.  Although these options are cheaper for you they actually  involve us in more work, so we really appreciate it if you can help us to assemble and dismantle the tents etc.

Dates of travel

The 3-day wildlife overview tour runs Wednesdays to Fridays throughout the year except for the Christmas - New Year week (no tours) and the week before Easter (Tuesday to Thursday).  We can sometimes also slip in an extra Sunday to Tuesday tour with ample notice.

The outback tour runs only four times a year - twice in autumn and twice in spring (summer is very hot, and reptiles are not active in winter).

Day-tours and weekend tours run throughout the year except Christmas - New Year and the Easter break, when venues tend to be very crowded.  Day-tours mostly run on weekends, Mondays or Tuesdays.

Custom tours can be run at almost any time with ample notice.

young travelerChildren of all ages are very welcome on most of our tours. We generally don't take the very young  on birding tours that include other birding guests, as some find it very difficult to be quiet enough. However, we are very happy to take families on birding tours if the children  are interested and our other guests for the day are okay with this.

Some children are very fit and love walking, but some are not  accustomed to much exercise and tire very quickly - please let us know before the tour the relative fitness of your children so we can plan accordingly.
